U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the frontline defense in preventing illegal and dangerous goods from entering the United States. Every day, CBP officers across the country work tirelessly to enforce regulations and seize violative shipments. These efforts help protect American consumers and businesses, ensuring that only safe and compliant products reach the U.S. market. This past month saw several major seizures—here are a few highlights.

Nearly $270K Worth of Unapproved FDA Drugs Seized in Cincinnati

CBP officers in Cincinnati made a significant seizure of nearly 270,000 unapproved U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) drugs. The shipment, originating from China, contained over 180 parcels with unregulated prescription drugs that were not approved for sale in the U.S. This seizure was a result of CBP’s collaboration with FDA. Joint efforts like these emphasize the importance of cross-agency collaboration in safeguarding public health.

$79K in Unreported Currency Seized at Hidalgo International Bridge

At the Hidalgo International Bridge in Texas, CBP officers, with support from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), seized $79,000 in unreported U.S. currency from a traveler attempting to leave the country. Under U.S. law, travelers are required to declare any currency over $10,000 when entering or exiting the country.

$151K in Counterfeit Designer Goods Seized at Wilmington Port

CBP officers at the Port of Wilmington seized counterfeit goods imitating luxury brands, including Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel, with an estimated value of $151,000. The goods were intercepted in a shipment from Hong Kong and were flagged as part of CBP’s broader initiative to protect intellectual property rights (IPR). CBP often works closely with rights holders and brand representatives to identify and stop counterfeit items from entering the U.S. market.

Massive Bologna and Prescription Drug Bust at Presidio Port of Entry

In an unusual case, CBP officers at the Presidio Port of Entry in Texas seized 44 rolls of prohibited pork bologna, along with a significant quantity of unapproved prescription medications. The bologna was hidden in the vehicle and was likely intended for resale, which is prohibited due to the risk of spreading animal diseases. The officers also uncovered 1,000 tablets of prescription drugs that were not FDA approved. This bust showcases the broad range of items CBP monitors to protect both the U.S. agricultural sector and public health.

Non-Compliant Food Trailers and Golf Carts Seized in Norfolk

CBP officers at the Port of Norfolk seized food trailers and golf carts that failed to meet U.S. safety standards for importation. Food trailers must comply with health and safety regulations to ensure they are safe for public use, while golf carts are subject to strict mechanical and electrical safety guidelines. These non-compliant products posed safety risks to consumers.
