OFAC Updates Week 9/20/21

September 21, 2021

The Office of Foreign Assets Control(OFAC) has issued an updated advisory regarding the sanctions risks associated with ransomeware payments. Included in this update are practice steps companies can take to mitigate risks associated with such attacks. Additionally OFAC has updated their Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN) List with cyber-related designations.


September 22, 2021

OFAC has updated their SDN List with Kingpin Act, Counter Narcotics and Somalia designations. Regarding the Kingpin Act and Counter Narcotics designations OFAC has designated eight Mexican individuals and two entities but has made deletions of over fifty entries from Columbia, Panama and Mexico.


September 24, 2021

OFAC has issued General License 14, "Authorizing Humanitarian Activities in Afghanistan" and General License 15, "Transactions Related to the Exploration of Reexportation of Agricultural Commodities, Medicine, Medical Devices, Replacement Parts and Components, or Software Updates in Afghanistan." OFAC has also published the related Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) 928, 929, 930 and 931.
