Today’s importers face a rapidly shifting landscape filled with both opportunity and risk, from President Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs to new and pending policies. Whether you’re experienced or just beginning to explore international trade, it’s essential to understand how to manage the complexities of global trade regulations.

Importers are required to exercise reasonable care when engaging in international trade. This means they must ensure the accuracy of all information provided to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), including product classification, valuation, country of origin, and more. Importers are expected to understand and comply with applicable regulations, maintain proper documentation, and take proactive steps to verify compliance. Failing to do so can lead to serious penalties, shipment delays, and other enforcement actions.

In this video, our Managing Attorney, Deanna Clark, Esq. and special guest Guy Bocicaut of the Haitian American Professionals Association of Connecticut (HAPAC), demystify the essential aspects of importing into the U.S. and provide practical guidance on important topics such as understanding tariffs, determining proper valuation for U.S. Customs purposes, rules for identifying country of origin, navigating the U.S. Customs entry process, how duties are assessed, and more.

As a bonus for watching, we are offering our bonus tip sheet with tips for complying with CBP regulations. Click the button below to get your bonus.
